End User Interface
UnityUK offers a public interface for library users. Two methods of access are available, and libraries can choose 1, or both – whichever suits the needs of the organisation.
UnityUK’s public interface offers users from within any branch library the ability to search UnityUK to find bibliographic records and find where an item is located anywhere in the UK. This interface is different to the staff interface and offers simple, Google-style searching as well as an advanced search option.
Option 1 – Access via IP address
UnityUK can be accessed from inside library buildings using IP authentication. Users do not have to authenticate and go straight to the search screen. Users cannot place requests. This package also includes the ability to set UnityUK up as Z39.50 target via your library catalogue (where your library management system has this capability). Some configuration work may be involved in this.
Option 2 – Authenticated access
This option offers users access remotely from any PC outside the library – in other words from home, school, college or work. Authentication is via the user’s library borrower number and PIN code. This option can also offer users the opportunity to place requests for resources online.
